Venue

The summer school will be held at Cardiff University, using its seminar rooms and collaborative spaces. Accommodation will be arranged in university residences, with catering provided for lunches and breaks.

We have secured a limited allocation of 20 spaces at Cardiff University residences. We currently offer single en-suite rooms at Talybont North.

Important Booking Information

The final deadline for accommodation bookings is 8 June 2026. The booking link will close after this date, so please complete your booking as soon as possible.

Guests can adjust their stay dates using the red bar at the top of the booking page. Bookings through the link can only be made for dates between 5 and 11 July 2026, and the minimum stay remains two nights.

How to Get to Cardiff

By Air

Heathrow / Gatwick Airports

National Express coaches and rail services operate direct connections to Cardiff Central Station from London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

Bristol Airport

Bristol Airport is 50 miles (80 km) from Cardiff. Journey time is approximately two hours.

By Coach: The Greyhound UK coach service runs every two hours from Bristol Airport to Cardiff Bus Station. Single fare: GBP 6. Tickets can be bought online at www.greyhounduk.com.

By Train: Take the Bristol International Flyer from the airport to Bristol Temple Meads train station (GBP 7). From Bristol Temple Meads, trains to Cardiff Central run every 30 minutes. One-way tickets are approximately GBP 10.

Alternative: Take the Bristol International Flyer bus to Bristol city centre or Bristol Bus Station, then catch a National Express coach to Cardiff. One-way fares are typically around GBP 10.

Cardiff International Airport

By Rail

High-speed intercity trains provide frequent services between Cardiff and major British cities. The Cardiff to London Paddington service runs throughout the day, with a journey time of under two hours.

Frequent regional services connect Cardiff with:

By Road

Cardiff is served by the M4 and is easily accessible from all parts of Britain.

From the southwest: Take the M5.
From the south of England: Follow major A roads to the M4.
From Scotland, northern England, and the Midlands: Travel via the M50 to the M4.

Travelling east on the M4: Leave at Junction 32 and follow the A470, signposted City Centre, into the Cathays area of the city.

Travelling west on the M4: Leave at Junction 29 and follow the A48(M)/A48, signposted Cardiff East and South, to the A470. Continue on the A470 towards the city centre.

Car Parking

There are several short- and long-stay public car parks in the city centre. Cardiff is compact and easy to explore on foot, with most attractions, shops, restaurants, hotels, and green spaces within a short walk. Cardiff Bay is around 1 km from the city centre and can be reached on foot, by cycle path, or by bus.

City Centre

Many attractions are located in the city centre, including Cardiff Castle, the National Museum, and the Principality Stadium. Parks, hotels, shopping centres, and Victorian arcades are all within a short walk.

Dining & Shopping

The Brewery Quarter and Mill Lane offer a wide range of restaurants and bars. Nearby, Queen Street and St David's provide a mix of major retailers, designer brands, and independent shops, while the city's arcades retain their Victorian and Edwardian character.

Cardiff Bay

Mermaid Quay in Cardiff Bay offers restaurants, cafes, and waterside activities around a large freshwater lake. The area also includes the Senedd and the Wales Millennium Centre.

Exploring Wales

Beyond Cardiff, Wales offers coastlines, mountain landscapes, market towns, and historic castles that are easy to reach during a longer stay.

Explore Snowdonia National Park, the beaches and coastal paths of Pembrokeshire, or the hiking routes and dark skies of the Brecon Beacons. Towns such as Hay-on-Wye and Tenby, along with sites such as Caerphilly Castle and Conwy Castle, offer a wider sense of Wales beyond the city.
